At a time when life should’ve been carefree and happy, Fitmark Ambassador Klaire Roberson was too focused on cardio to notice anything else. Determined to be as slim as could be, she gave up a social life for the elliptical machine thinking that was the way to achieve the ideal body.

After graduating from the psychology program at college, Klaire found herself working in Miami as a camp counselor. At the time, she describes herself as a ‘cardio queen’ with little interest in lifting weights or any other kind of strength training. She told us:
I spent long days being active with kids, playing sports 3-4 hours each day. I would end my day with 1 hour on the elliptical before bedtime. I remember feeling exhausted from all of the cardio, but still feeling like I wasn’t up to par to be exploring the beaches of Miami in my free time.
Like so many young women before her, Klaire fell into the trap of over-training and concentrating on cardio to achieve the slim, lean body everyone wants. She told us:
It’s sad to look back and realize I didn’t enjoy myself as much as I could have because I was so focused on being skinny or “perfect, further damaging my own body image instead of making myself healthier like I thought I was.
Strength Training & CrossFit
It wasn’t until her ex-boyfriend introduced her to CrossFit that her focus started to shift and she started to get stronger.
I found a local box, signed up on a whim, and went in with big doubts that I would be able to hang in with the other CrossFitters. Alas, I did… and I was hooked! Holding a barbell in my hands for the first time, learning how to squat, clean, snatch, and racing the clock motivated me more and more with every workout. From there, my love for fitness has evolved. But without a doubt, I have to thank CrossFit for introducing me to a world where a woman can be strong, confident, and capable of anything she puts her mind to.
Meal Prep and Menu Planning
Learning the right way to fuel her body was also an important factor in Klaire’s new fitness quest. Getting enough calories and balancing her macros was something she had never considered before. Now it’s part of the routine. She told us:
Just like my journey into the fitness world, my approach to diet and meal prep has evolved over the past 4 years. I began with a strict diet during my CrossFit and bodybuilding days. All meals and macros were planned and timed for me by a coach, and I thrived with this approach. I learned how to meal prep effectively, and loved seeing my body respond to this diligent schedule. Now, my nutrition looks very different. To begin, I am vegetarian! So I have had to learn how to get creative with my protein sources to keep my protein intake at an appropriate level for my body! I still utilize meal prep by keeping a 3-day allotment of jasmine rice, tofu, edamame, and vegetables ready during the week.
On most days, I keep my food intake pretty boring, often repeating the same meals for weeks at a time. But I do live by a more “intuitive eating” approach these days. My main focus is on keeping protein intake high with all meals and snacks, and structuring my carbs around my workouts. With this intuitive ketogenic approach, I have noticed greater fat loss over the last 4 months, and have tracked my body composition with a Tanita scale to ensure any muscle loss is minimal during weight loss!
Klaire Roberson’s Top 3 Fit Tips
Share your goals – There is something about having others know that you are pursuing a fitness goal that holds you more accountable. What motivated me most was joining the Instagram fitness community, and keeping a photo-journal of my progress. Soon, you find yourself motivating others to pursue a healthier lifestyle, and there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing you have that impact on someone!
Track your food – We all think we know what we are eating. But you never truly know your total caloric intake or just how much protein/carbs/fats you’re consuming day-to-day unless you track. This is the first step in learning what your body can handle, so you can begin making consistent changes and transforming!
Get a daily dose of motivation – As Zig Ziglar once said, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – That’s why we recommend it daily!” Reading motivational blogs, listening to motivational podcasts, following an inspirational fitness Instagram account or YouTube page may seem like a silly tip, but every little bit of motivation adds up! Keep the knowledge and inspiration flowing in, and you’ll never lack the motivation to continue pursuing your fitness goals!
Bags and Bags and Bags!
Having a bag packed and ready to go every day is part of Klaire’s success in sticking to her healthy lifestyle. She has many bags for different purposes in her life. She told us:
My Fitmark Bags play many roles in my day-to-day life. My Shield accompanies me on ALL road trips, vacations and extended hours away from home to keep my proteins cold. I carry my Envoy Backpack daily to work, as it is spacious and will hold my change of clothes for the gym each afternoon, a pair of shoes, and a lunch and pre-workout snack! My Max Rep Transition Pack is a go-to for flights, as it will easily fit all clothing, shoes, pre-workout, and packaged food for a week-long trip, converting into a backpack for easier transportation! I will note, my Transporter Tote is still my favorite Fitmark Bag, often playing the role of a weekender tote for 2-day trips, allowing me to take along a substantial amount of meal-prepped proteins in the zippered compartment!
