On Wednesday, San Antonio was chanting and raving as the NBA Champion Spurs rolled through the city celebrating the franchise’s 5th title. It was an emotional parade ride that represented the emotional path the team had to take to arrive at this position. Greg Popovich and his team defeated the Miami Heat last Sunday in a rematch from the 2013 NBA Finals where the Heat came out victorious.
Kawhi Leonard was awarded the Final MVP award for stellar defense against Lebron James and a scorching shooting performance from the field. However, the entire team showed up for a dominant performance. Each of the four Spurs victories in the Finals was by at least 15 points. This was an incredible feat against Miami’s star-studded roster.
Throughout the series, the Spurs showed it took team chemistry and not individual performance to win a championship. Brought together by last year’s difficult loss, the Spurs rallied together under the veteran leadership of Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, and the long-time Spur, Tim Duncan. Without a single player in the top 10 MVP voting the Spurs handily defeated what was considered the best NBA team in the league and for this they Fit the Mark.
