Train It Right: The Kinesiology Report With Track & Field Athlete Alicia Bell

With an athlete the caliber of Alicia Bell, it’s hard to know where to begin  hers is a long and impressive career, dedicated to helping others succeed in their athletic pursuits. As a kinesiologist, personal trainer, strength coach, fitness model, fitness competitor and track and field sprint coach, Alicia is a nationally recognized athlete. You may have even seen Alicia in TV commercials for Garnier or New Balance, or on products like Zensation and PurAthletics. In 2013, she coached Team Canada in Track and Field to a victorious 13 medals at the Maccabi Summer Olympic Games in Israel. She’s been working in the fitness industry for more than 10 years and we’re very proud to call her a Fitmark Ambassador.

The Early Years of an Olympic Athlete

Alicia took to sports at a very young age and knew immediately where her strengths lay in Track and Field. She was a fast runner, so Track and Field was the perfect fit for her. She quickly advanced in this sport and went on to win competition after competition at the National and Olympic level.

Life After Kinesiology

After studying kinesiology at university, Alicia found she had a better understanding of the body and how it works, and this has helped her to become a high level coach. All of her programs are custom designed for each individual based on their goals and what works best for them. She said in one interview:

I would say that my expertise is biomechanics. I love how certain muscles can be manipulated to get the most out of an exercise. Activating the right joints or stabilizers can totally change an exercise or movement. 

Building the Foundations

Getting her degree in kinesiology was just the beginning of a long and rewarding career for Alicia. While she started off in one direction, she’s learned to spread her wings in other areas. As you can see from this impressive list of qualifications, Alicia has been busy:

Alicia Bell’s Top 3 Favorite Exercises

With those kinds of credentials, we just had to know what an athlete like Alicia would put on her Top 3 List of Favorite Exercises. Here’s what she said:

  1. Walking lunges….no matter how fit you are, these will make you feel it the next day.
  2. Squats…not only are they great for your legs, butt, balance, but they are also great for activating your deep core muscles.
  3. Delts 6 ways …this one really burns out all areas of your deltoids. We often times overlook all of the deltoids, so this one pretty much hits them all in one shot.

Hitting the Big Time

After years of training with some of the biggest names in coaching, Alicia found herself being sought after by heavy hitters from major league sports. It all started with NBA Basketball Player, Dwight Howard, who approached Alicia for training. It was a turning point in her career. She had made a name for herself and she was on her way. She told us:

I have a variety of certifications ranging from a Kinesiology degree, CPT, Fascial Stretch Therapy and I am also a high level track and field coach. I have every type of client from rehab, personal training, weight loss, elite track and field athletes and complete transformation clients. I like to create personalized programming based on my clients goals and I use all of my experiences and background to develop a unique style to personally fit them.

What would Dwight Howard Say If He Knew!

Working with Dwight Howard and other NBA athletes explains Alicia’s love of basketball. We asked her who her favorite sport was right now?

The Toronto Raptors! After all I live in Toronto and need to support our local team! I also cheer for Team Canada Track and Field, because that is my sport of choice!

Train It Right

Alicia offers a wide range of training programs through her company Train It Right. Each one will guide you through a safe way to train and reach your goals, as well as set you up with the proper tools you need to maintain a healthy nutrition program. She told us:

I also am Precision Nutrition certified, so I even end up doing a lot of my clients meal programming as well.

Here’s one of Alicia’s favorite go-to recipes We asked Alicia for one of her favorite go-to recipes ⎼ “it tastes like real pudding!”

Train It Right Pudding

When Im craving something sweet, I whip up some avocado pudding that I call Train It Right Pudding:

Ingredients

  • ½ Avocado
  • 1 Scoop Protein
  • 2TB Cocoa
  • 1/4c Unsweetened Almond Milk

Preparation: Blend all ingredients together until smooth. Chill and enjoy!

Alicia Bell’s Favorite Fitmark Bags
