People take to the gym for all sorts of reasons and it’s not always to lose weight. For a lot of young women it’s to put on weight in the shape of lean muscle. This was the case for Fitmark Ambassador Lindsay Kaye. She told us:

I’ve been a toothpick my whole life. When I went into the military, I fell in love with the discipline and applied it to my diet as well. It was an addiction after that and I got my training certification and nutrition degree. I was able to put on muscle, which was supposedly impossible for my family to do.

Just ask Lindsay’s brother, who couldn’t keep up with the progress she was making in the gym; though his competitive spirit kept Lindsay going and provided just the right kind of motivation she needed to prove him and everybody else wrong. Applying the military discipline of the USAF, she worked hard to achieve the results she wanted.

The secret was a little knowledge and some solid training in the area of fitness and nutrition. Whether you choose to enrol in a certificate program, hire a trainer, or educate yourself, to get these kinds of results, you need to know all the ins and outs of exercise science and fueling your body.

Lindsay’s approach to getting in shape revolves around meal prep and a belief in that hard-and-fast rule of 80% diet, 20% fitness. She told us:

I definitely have to prep my meals in advance. I always go by the saying “failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” When you have all your meals ready in front of you to eat, you have no excuse to cheat. Ha! I rhymed again. I wouldn’t have been able to attain my physique if I didn’t diet properly and meal prepping is a necessity.
