Fitness To Boost Your Self-Esteem

Here’s a secret: Fitness makes you feel great! A real confidence builder, getting fit can boost your self-esteem and make you feel more capable than you ever thought possible. That’s why so many fitness enthusiasts are so nutty about working out. It makes you feel good from top to bottom and inside out. Just ask Fitmark Ambassador Anh Vu. Finding fitness was her life raft in a turbulent sea of poor body image and low self-esteem. She told us:

Fitness is a crucial part in my life, because it’s my daily stress outlet. I have overcome multiple eating disorders growing up, as well as depression and anxiety. Fitness truly saved my life and structured me into the person I am today.

Having positive self-esteem is the motivating factor in all of us that gives us the confidence we need to go after our goals. People with a positive self-esteem live longer, healthier lives and are less likely to suffer from mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Anh found that weightlifting in particular was the key to unlocking her happiness. She told us:

I was never the “athletic” one growing up, and when I found my love for weightlifting, there was no turning back. I competed in six shows last year, which was my first year in competing. I am currently on prep for the Norcal Championships on June 3, and I genuinely can say I love the lifestyle.

Building Muscle, Building Self-Esteem

So what is it about weightlifting that changes how we feel about ourselves? It happens the moment you progress in your training and increase your lifting weight. Pushing yourself to do more than you thought possible and breaking your personal best gives your self-esteem a boost. You feel stronger, more capable and competent, which all help to build your confidence and your feeling of self-worth.

We want you to know this so that you have more reasons to get fit than you have excuses not to! Anh told us that working with a fitness coach was the next step in helping her reach her fitness goals. It also helped her learn how to plan and prep her meals to keep her on track with her nutrition goals. She told us:

Preparation is KEY to meeting your goals! Taking that extra time to weigh everything out and pack your meals will eliminate any potential bad choices, such as fast food. I highly recommend getting a meal prep bag large enough to fit all of your food containers, drinks, and condiments. I am using my large Shield camo bag on a regular basis and it’s my life saver!

Anh relies on her Fitmark Bag to help keep her organized and on track with her fitness and nutrition goals. She told us:

I cannot go a single day without my Fitmark Bag! I work 9-10 hour days, and on top of that, I have to dedicate a couple of hours every day to school and a couple to my training. Even on my days off from work, I have two puppy huskies to take care of and countless errands to run. Without my meal prep bag, I’d be lost, since it’s so crucial to hit all my meals while I’m prepping for a competition. Also, this is the most reputable meal prep bag company that I have had the pleasure of coming across. So extremely blessed to be able to work with Fitmark!

Top 3 Tips To Boost Self-Esteem

  1. Mentality is everything. When you start eliminating negative thoughts and tell yourself you can do it, it WILL happen. Don’t doubt yourself and give up before you reach your full potential!
  2. Good things take time. Crash diets do not work and are extremely harmful to your metabolism. It may seem like progress is moving too slow, because we all like immediate gratification, but trust the process.
  3. Try something new. Even for myself, starting this new prep with Coach Kim Oddo was completely different than what I was used to before. I have learned that being comfortable with placing yourself in UNcomfortable situations is the only way you’ll be able to grow.

You know that feeling when you break your personal best or when you steel yourself to raise the bar and increase your lifting weight? That’s the feeling of self-worth and it’s all you need to increase your self-esteem and build your confidence. Positive self-esteem starts with your first workout. Guaranteed it won’t be your last.
