This is where Sasha’s fitness journey begins – from a place where she was uncomfortable in her own body and desperate to do something about it. But she made some mistakes along the way and like her, we can learn from them to help set us straight and put us on the right track to success. She says:
I’m someone who believes we each owe it to ourselves to become the best versions of ourselves possible. We all have the power to make our own happiness.
Like many of us who pack on a few pounds, Sasha put on her running shoes and took to the trails. But without a real sense of what she was doing, she soon fell into the common trap of overtraining and not nourishing her body’s athletic needs. She told us:
I grew up playing sports but like most females, when my metabolism slowed down the weight packed on. I’d run for miles a day and do hours of ab workouts, but didn’t realize my lack of nutrition was the true culprit. I was exhausted, defeated, and unhappy in my skin.
What can we learn from Sasha’s journey and the mistakes she made along the way?

Track Macronutrients - Carbs, Fats, Proteins
Sasha realized that her training and nutrition program was inadequate. She had no energy and couldn’t stay ahead of her poor eating habits. So she set out to learn more about living a healthy lifestyle. She told us:
Rather than hating my body I learned to love it and take care of it. Three years ago was when I learned to track my macros. I learned to nourish my body with healthy, clean food sources, rather than poisoning it with the excessive booze and junk I’d been consuming. I educated myself on nutrition and began weight lifting. Choosing to make my health and happiness a priority was a huge lifestyle change, but now I can’t imagine life any other way.
So don’t think of it as dieting. Instead, learn to look at food as fuel made up of macronutrients and micronutrients that are essential for your good health, now and in the future. Sasha says:
A common misconception is that you can out-train a bad diet. I fell victim to this myth for years. Rather than emotionally eating or stress eating like I used to, I now eat for a purpose. “Diet” can be such an ugly word with a negative connotation. I don’t “diet” to punish myself or because I hate my body. Quite the contrary, I eat based on my goals. I’ve found the greatest success from carb cycling and macro tracking.

- The majority of fat loss is diet. Results take time, but they’ll come with consistency.
- Plan out your cheat/treat meals in advance. If there’s a special occasion or a night out – great! Enjoy that time, but stick with your goals the rest of the week.
- There’s no straight shot to success. There will be ups and downs, there will be mistakes. What’s important is to not let a mistake define you. We all have bad days and get off our diets sometimes, but don’t turn that into a bad week. Just get right back on again.
Meal Prep Is The Answer
Sasha found that meal prep was a real game changer. Being prepared and having your meals planned out for the week ahead was the answer to staying on track and sticking to the program. She told us:
Since my goals and macros are already planned out, I’m able to prep my food in advance, so there’s no room for failure! Meals 1-4 are eaten throughout the day with a 5th meal right after my evening workout. With a busy work and workout schedule I’m typically gone from 5:30am – 7:30pm daily. Planning in advance ensures I’m prepared for the busy day ahead.
