Start With A Plan

The best way to get rid of excuses is to replace them with a plan, one that includes a workout program and a meal plan. Having a plan to follow will help keep you honest and on track. Here’s some advice from Fitmark Ambassador Mikhail Gittens:

Have a planned routine, so you always know what exercise you’re doing next. If you’re new to the gym or unfamiliar with exercises, the worst thing you can do is start without a plan. Having a set workout routine ensures you’re working out efficiently and will help you achieve your goal.

Fitmark Ambassador Meagen Harriman agrees. Her motto is: Plan, Prep, and Persevere. She says:

Plan out your food choices and workouts ahead of time! No matter where you are, when you plan out your meals, it’s easier to stay on track.

Preparation Is Key

Once you master your fitness and nutrition plan, the next step is prep. Preparation is the key to staying on track. This can be as simple as packing your workout bag every night, so you have no excuses to miss the gym the next day. It could be placing your running shoes by the front door as a reminder to go for your morning jog. The same goes for your food. Preparing your meals ahead of time will keep you true to your fitness goals.

Just keep it simple until you get the hang of what you’re doing. The same is true for meal prep. Eat whole, nutrient dense foods that are easy to track. For instance, it’s a lot easier to prepare and track chicken and rice than it is a recipe with 10 ingredients.

Good things take time. Crash diets do not work and are extremely harmful to your metabolism. It may seem like progress is moving too slow, because we all like immediate gratification, but trust the process. Don’t doubt yourself and give up before you reach your full potential!

Fitmark Ambassador Vanesa Delgado knows all about perseverance and not giving up. After her soccer career came to an abrupt halt, she found another sport that gave her same satisfaction. She didn’t let injury stop her from staying active, and neither should you let anything get in your way of living a healthy lifestyle.

It’s really not hard to have a fit lifestyle. You just have to change your approach and mindset. The easiest way is to start in the kitchen. Instead of eating fast food all the time, dedicate just one or two nights a week to meal prep for the whole week. You’ll see changes and from there, make a commitment to start going to the gym. It doesn’t have to be obnoxious, just hit the gym for 30-45 minutes immediately before or after work. You’ll see changes and it’ll be more incorporated into your life.
